Attention coffee and tea lovers! Have you ever brewed your coffee or tea, were ready to start sipping, but >zap-Ouch!< it was too hot?! It’s so disappointing.
Here’s a great tip to avoid having to wait for your hot beverage to cool before you can drink it. Make ice cubes out of the tea and coffee you typically drink. Then you’ll be able to drop an ice cube of that same coffee or tea into the too-hot drink to cool it down without diluting it!
I drink a cup of Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime Extra caffeine-free tea every night. It’s one of the few good habits I have. I also like Celestial Seasonings Lemon Zinger and pretty much any kind of mint tea.
I brewed cups of my three go-to teas—Sleepytime, mint, and Lemon Zinger.
Then I poured the teas into ice cube trays, being sure not to confuse the mint and Sleepytime since their colors are so similar. After they were frozen, I put the ice cubes in freezer bags and labeled them with a Sharpie.
Every time I make a cup of tea and the water is boiled just too hot (which is pretty much every time), I can drop an ice cube in and drink my tea right away rather than waiting for it to cool (and often forgetting about it). In fact, I just did!
You can do the same with coffee.
The idea came to me because purchased to-go coffee can be so crazy hot it’s not drinkable. Leif often gets an ice cube when he orders his because he can’t stand waiting for it to cool down. I’ll wait, but by the time it’s cool enough to drink I forget about it (again), and then it gets too cold and I can’t drink cold coffee—[shudder]. I know you’re not going to take ice cubes with you when you go to Starbucks or Peet’s, but you can definitely use this trick at home.
