We’ve all experienced needing a last minute gift and scrambling to figure out what to do. Have no fear, for I have a solution no matter what season or occasion: Bar in a Jar!
I was involved in a gift exchange in which we decided to spend no more than $10 for the gifts we exchanged. The easier part was that it could be a generic gift for anyone in the group, rather than someone specific. That meant, in our case, the gift could be for a man or a woman–great!
I knew this was going to be a fun challenge and settled on making a Bar in a Jar.
I grabbed a wide-mouth canning jar and headed to the liquor store for a handful of minis. The guy at the counter said, “I’ve seen lots of these before. I know what you need.” Ah, I always like a man who knows what I need.
I panicked just a tiny bit and thought maybe I needed a shorter jar. I mean, maybe I could fit so many minis into the jar that in order to fill it, it’d end up being a $20 gift and I’d blow the gift exchange rules and budget. The truth is, you can load a canning jar up with more than twenty bucks worth of booze, but you don’t need to.
Only five minis actually fit. Now, certainly, my friends are worth loads more than what five minis cost, but we set limits for a reason, so I was sticking to them.
Once I purchased the bottles, I put some gift packing filler in the bottom of the jar, rolled two cocktail napkins in between the bottles, added mini umbrellas (just in case) and cut a piece of cork into a circle for the lid to double as a coaster.
Finally, I added an olive cocktail pick to the tag. Voila! Bar in a Jar
Was it a hit at the gift exchange?
Do this. Make a couple Bar in a Jar gifts to have on hand. That way, when you get in a pinch and need a fun, inexpensive gift in a hurry, you’re good to go!
